Service Reports 2014
Service Call 1
12th January @ 22:55 AWB launched to a large barge which was hard against the harbours North breakwater. On arrival on scene, the vessel was found to be aground as well as being bow on to the breakwater rocks. The AWB crew managed to get a heaving line over to the barge, where they were then able to pull our main tow rope aboard. The tow rope was then fastened to the bow of the barge and once tight the barge was eventually towed off the sand and away from the breakwater. The AWB then towed the barge onto a mooring in the harbour.
Service Call 2
30th January @ 14:32 ILB launched to a 10m angling boat with engine failure half a mile off Ramsgate main beach with 3 persons on board. ILB took the casualty under tow and brought it into harbour and put it back on its berth.
Service Call 3
30th January @ 15:52 ILB launched at the request of Dover Coastguard, to a 15ft angling boat with 2 persons on board, aground in the River Stour entrance. On arrival on scene the casualty boat was found to be well aground, with the tide still dropping. It was decided to take the 2 persons off the casualty boat and after having put the anchor out, return to station and await the tide coming in.

1st February @ 00:42 AWB launched along with Dover AWB, by Dover Coastguard, after a drifting liferaft was spotted. Both Ramsgate and Dover All Weather Lifeboats carried out a search in 45 knot winds until they were stood down by Dover Coastguard at 02:16, after a ship reported loosing one of its liferaft.

18th February @ 22:38 AWB launched to a local trawler with a fouled prop 9 miles off Ramsgate close to the Thanet Offshore Windfarm. AWB passed a tow to the casualty and towed it into Ramsgate Harbour.
Service Call 7
10th March @16:58 ILB launched to a report of an inflated liferaft near Joss Bay. ILB found the unmanned liferaft and on reporting to the Coast Guard were informed that one of the pilot boats had just informed them that they had just found that one of theirs was missing. The ILB attached a tow to the liferaft and towed it back to Ramsgate.
Service Call 8
15th March @18:55 ILB launched to investigate an emergency location beacon near the shore at North Foreland. Margate mobile coastguard were directed by Dover Coastguard to a beacon located in a garage which had accidentally been activated. ILB returned to station.
Service Call 9
16th March @14:46 ILB launched to an inflatable dinghy 400 meters off Ramsgate main sands with 2 people on board. ILB towed Dinghy into shallow water and remained on scene until they were safely ashore.
Service Call 12
17th April @ 14:05 AWB launched to a 14m Belgian yacht with engine failure 3 miles East of Ramsgate Harbour with 3 persons on board. AWB took the casualty under tow and brought it into the harbour.

Service Call 13
19th. April @ 09.39: ILB launched to yacht with electrical and power failure which had run aground in the harbour entrance when trying to enter on a falling tide. They put down anchor to await rising tide but as the tide made the anchor dragged and in the 15 knot NE wind the yacht drifted towards the Port's No.2 berth. With no yacht radio due to the electrics failure the Port Control noticed the danger and called out the ILB which reached the yacht when only metres away from going under the steelwork at the berth. The ILB and its crew safely towed the yacht and its crew in the harbour.
Service Call 14
24th April @ 17:40 AWB launched to a 14m Dutch Yacht with engine failure at the end of the Ramsgate Approach Channel with 2 persons on board and unable to sail due to lack of wind. AWB took the casualty under tow and brought it into harbour. The yacht was originally heading for Dover but on suffering an engine overheat and with vessels in the area, decided to request assistance.

24th April @ 20:58 ILB was launched to a broken down jet ski between Dumpton Gap and Louisa Bay, which was reported by a member of the public, who informed the local Police. The Police had the jet ski in sight and were able to assist the ILB in locating the casualty. The ILB attached a tow and took the casualty to Ramsgate main beach for recovery.

25th April @ 20:37 ILB requested by Dover Coastguard to assist a person cut off by the rising tide near Joss Bay. ILB with the assistance to Margate Mobile Coastguard and the local Police carried out an extensive search along the coast line but no one was found to be in any difficulty. ILB returned to station
Service Call 17
4th May @ 16:10 AWB launched to a report from a ship of a 7ft wooden rowing boat drifting unattended 27 miles off Ramsgate. AWB arrived on scene, recovered rowing boat on board and returned to Ramsgate.
Service Call 18
8th May @ 19:07 ILB launched to a 24 ft cabin cruiser with 4 people on board, aground in Pegwell Bay, near the river Stour entrance. Once on scene, one of the ILB crew walked the tow rope to the casualty and went aboard to make sure that there was no damage to the vessel. After making the tow fast, the crew member returned to the ILB, which then proceeded to tow the casualty into deeper water. Once fully afloat the casualty was able to make its own way up the river to Sandwich, with the ILB escorting it along the way.
Service Call 19 & 20
10th May @ 10:15 Whilst on exercise both boats were tasked by Dover Coastguard to attend a swimmer in difficulty off Viking Bay, Broadstairs. Once at the scene, no swimmer was found to be in difficulty, so both boats continued with their exercise. False alarm with good intent.
Service Call 21
24th May @ 02:02 ILB launched to a person in the water in the outer harbour, spotted by some anglers. ILB arrived on scene and managed to persuade the man to get in the ILB. He was then taken back to the Lifeboat station where he was handed over to the awaiting ambulance crew who carried out a quick assessment and found him to be hypothermic (temperature of 30 degrees). He was then taken into the ambulance for warming up and to calm down as he was in an agitated state. Once the ambulance crew were happy, he was taken to the hospital.

25th May @ 23:49 ILB launched to a small yacht with 2 persons on board, 5 miles off Ramsgate with engine failure and no wind to sail with. ILB arrived on scene, took the casualty under tow and brought it into harbour.
Service Call 23
29th May @ 21:46 ILB launched to a yacht having difficulty entering the harbour with engine failure. ILB reached the yacht in the turning circle amongst many other visiting yachts, attached a tow and brought the yacht safely alongside a berth in the harbour.
Service Call 24 & 25
30th May @ 16:54 both AWB & ILB launched to a Belgian yacht aground on the Goodwin Sands with 5 people on board. ILB got as close to the casualty as possible and managed to get the 5 people off the yacht in two trips and transferred them to the AWB. As the tide was still dropping and the yacht being high and dry, both Lifeboats returned to station with the 5 people from the yacht. Both Lifeboats are planning on going back out at 22:30 to rescue the yacht, as it would become a hazard to shipping if left to drift on its own, and reunite it and its crew.
Service Call 26 & 27
30th May @ 22:30 Both AWB & ILB re-launched to the Belgian yacht from earlier. ILB got along side casualty and transferred 2 of our crew aboard to assist with making the tow and to check for any damage or water ingress. Once happy that the yacht was OK the ILB towed the yacht clear of the sand bank and transferred the tow to the AWB, which then proceeded to tow it into Ramsgate and reunite it with its crew. This morning the yacht and its 5 crew left early to proceed to Belgium.

Service Call 29
9th June @ 22:13 ILB Launched to a report of a red flare seen in the Pegwell Bay area. ILB were asked to check a yacht in the area to check that they were alright and wether they had sighted a red flare which they hadn't. ILB then proceeded to the Western Undercliff and asked some fishermen if they had seen anything resembling a red flare. They had seen 2 Chinese lanterns at about the same time as the report came in about the red flare. ILB reported this to the Coastguard who were happy to let them return to station. False alarm with good intent.

10th June @ 21:15 ILB Launched to a Capsized jet ski off Winterstoke with no one near. Once on scene it emerged that the jet ski rider was safely ashore and was attempting to reach his jet ski. ILB told him to stay ashore whilst they retrieved the upturned jet ski which was attached to a mooring buoy. ILB towed jet ski to the shore and waited until the owner had it under control, then returned to station.

15th June @ 22:26 ILB launched to 2 speed boats with 2 people on each, aground just outside the River Stour entrance. ILB waited until they re-floated then towed one into Ramsgate and escorted the other, where their trailers were waiting.
Service Call 32 & 33
17th June @ 11:05 ILB launched to a report of a person having jumped into the sea on the seaward side of the Eastern Harbour wall. After extensive searching with no one found it was decided that a thorough search was required out to sea as the wind and tide could have taken the person seaward. At 12:01 the AWB was launched and coordinated a thorough search with the assistance of the ILB, a pilot boat, a wind farm support vessel and 2 local fishing vessels. The local mobile Coastguard Units were tasked to cover all the shoreline from Ramsgate beach down to the Western Undercliff . Rescue 125 (Helicopter) also arrived on scene and was coordinated directly by Dover Coastguard. After a thorough search, taking over 2 hours, it was decided by Dover Coastguard that all vessels and helicopter could stand down and return to bases.

21st June @ 10:58 ILB launched to a yacht aground up the River Stour. Due to a dropping tide the ILB took the XP boat with them, to be launched when too shallow for the ILB. Due to the lack of water the XP boat was unable to get into the river so both returned to station. Mobile Coastguard unit was on scene to make sure everything was OK with the casualty.

22nd June @ 14:40 ILB launched to a yacht aground at the B2 buoy. ILB attached a tow and pulled the yacht into clear water, where it made its own way on to Dover.
Service Call 36
24th June @ 00:38 ILB launched to 2 persons stuck in the mud with bikes, up the river Stour. Police, Fire and Ambulance were in attendance but unable to reach them. ILB crew got the persons and bikes aboard the ILB and landed them safely ashore. ILB then made a hasty retreat before the tide dropped too low for them to exit the river.

27th June @ 11:07 ILB launched to a person cut off by the tide at Dumpton Gap. The ILB Crew managed to get the person and dog aboard the ILB and bring them safely back to the Lifeboat Station where they were collected and taken home by a family member.
Service Call 38
28th June @ 17:23 AWB launched to an 8m yacht with a fouled prop, 7 miles NE of Ramsgate with one person on board. AWB towed casualty into Ramsgate Harbour.
Service Call 39
29th June @ 08:17 AWB launched to a local fishing boat with engine failure, 2 miles off Ramsgate with 2 persons on board. AWB towed casualty into harbour.

Service Call 40
29th June @ 11:37 ILB launched to a 16 year old missing since last night up the River Stour. ILB carried out an extensive search from the River entrance as far up river as Plucks Gutter. After carrying out the search requested by the Coastguard and finding nothing, they were released by the Coastguard and returned to station.
Service Call 41
2nd July @ 14:06 AWB launched to a yacht with 2 people on board, caught up in fishing rope, unable to untangle prop and unable to lift rope from the sea bed. AWB crew managed to lift the rope sufficiently to cut it, releasing the yacht which was then towed back to Ramsgate Harbour, where it was placed in a position which will dry out later this evening, allowing the skipper to remove the remaining rope from the prop.
Service Call 42
4th July @ 13:05 ILB launched to a yacht suspected to be aground at the North Sand head. On arrival on scene the crew found the yacht raising its anchor after having been watching the wildlife. Once the tide started making, they had re boarded the yacht and were making their way back into deeper water. ILB made its way back to station. False alarm with good intent.

4th July @ 19:17 ILB launched to a yacht off North Foreland with engine failure. ILB attached a line and towed casualty back to Ramsgate.

7th July @ 19:03 AWB launched to a 43ft yacht with 7 persons onboard, South of the Thanet Offshore Windfarm with engine failure and unable to make way under sail. AWB attached a line and towed casualty into Ramsgate Harbour.

12th July @ 19:10 ILB launched by Port Control to a small speed boat aground on the Quern Bank. On arrival on scene the speed boat had managed to get off the bank. The ILB remained along side the casualty, escorting it in to Ramsgate Harbour.
Service Call 46
13th July @ 09:11 ILB launched to a 23ft angling boat with electrical failure, with 1 person on board, close to the breakwater rocks. Casualty was towed to safety by another angling boat which passed the tow to the ILB, which was then able to put the casualty on to his own berth in the harbour.
Service Call 47
13th July @ 18:59 AWB launched to a 41ft yacht with no drive and no wind to sail with and 2 persons on board. AWB attached a line and towed it into Ramsgate Harbour.
Service Call 48
16th July @ 15:53 AWB launched to a cabin cruiser 10 miles East of Ramsgate with 2 persons on board. The vessel was suffering from one total engine failure and an intermittent second engine. AWB passed a line to the casualty and towed it into Ramsgate Harbour.
Service Call 49
16th July @ 22:37 ILB launched to a 37ft yacht aground on the Southern end of the Break with 3 persons on board. Once on scene the ILB attached a line and pulled the casualty clear and into deeper water. After checking that everything was OK with the casualty, the tow was released, allowing the casualty to make its own way into Ramsgate, escorted by the ILB.
Service Call 50
2nd August @ 17:32 ILB launched to a report from a member of the public, of a kit surfer in difficulty at Pegwell Bay. ILB arrived on scene to find a group of kit surfers two of which were ashore packing away their gear. ILB reported to Dover Coastguard and were given a description of the kit surfers equipment they were launched to. This was a perfect match with one of the kits being packed up, and after reporting to the Coastguard, returned to station. False alarm with good intent.
Service Call 51
9th August @ 22:47 ILB launched to a report of a red flare sighted in the Pegwell Bay area. ILB carried out a search but found nothing untoward. ILB was released by Dover Coastguard and returned to station. False alarm with good intent.
Service Call 52
17th August @ 10:52 AWB launched to a yacht taking part in Ramsgate Week, with an injured crewman, at the end of the Ramsgate Approach channel. On arrival on scene two of our crew were transferred to the yacht, via a rib that was in attendance. Our two crewmen then assessed the casualty and found him to have a head injury and an injured shoulder and therefore carried out treatment as required. As the casualty was alert and talking it was decided to leave him on the yacht with our two crewmen, rather than transfer him from boat to boat in choppy seas. The AWB escorted the yacht into Ramsgate Harbour, where the casualty was reassessed by the awaiting ambulance crew. He was then able to climb off the yacht and walk to the ambulance with assistance.
Service Call 53
17th August @13:41 AWB launched to another injured yachtsman taking part in a race, who was hit on the head with the spinnaker pole. On scene the yachtsman was transferred to the AWB, along with one of his fellow crewmen, and was assessed by our crew. The AWB then took the casualty into Ramsgate Harbour and handed him over to the awaiting paramedic, who advised that he be taken to A & E as a precaution.

17th August @ 14:55 AWB launched to the same yacht as 53, which had now suffered engine failure and was unable to sail due to failure in their rigging. AWB towed casualty into harbour.
Service Call 55 & 56
24th August @ 13:38 whilst moored in the inner harbour for our open day the AWB had a call to a 10m barge 15 miles off Ramsgate with overheating problems. As the AWB left the harbour the crew saw a speed boat crew waving for assistance. The AWB towed the speed boat into the harbour, then continued on to the 10m barge which was being kept clear of the shipping lane by a yacht.. On arrival on scene the AWB took over the tow from the yacht and towed the barge into Ramsgate Harbour.

Service Call 57
26th August @ 11:55 ILB launched to a small 6m boat broken down and taking in water at the River Stour entrance. Casualty towed to the Lifeboat Station but sank before the ILB crew could get aboard. The casualty was lifted sufficiently to get the AWB salvage pump to pump the water from it. Once re-floated it was lifted out of the water by the harbour travel hoist.
Service Call 58
26th August @ 15:24 ILB launched to investigate a report of a red flare in Pegwell Bay. ILB searched the area thoroughly until notified that the red flare had been let off accidentally. The ILB then returned to station. False alarm with good intent.
Service Call 59
25th August @ 21:47 ILB launched to a person in the water in the inner marine. Dock gates were closed so 3 crew got suited up and went to the scene by car. On arrival found the fire brigade had recovered the man from the water.
Service Call 60
1st September @ 16:16 ILB launched to the assistance of 4 teenagers stuck on the South side of the river Stour. ILB got the teenagers aboard and brought them in to the lifeboat station where they were met by an awaiting Coastguard.
Service Call 61
17th September @ 13:08 ILB launched to a report of two people in difficulty off Stone Bay, clinging to a buoy. On arrival on scene the ILB crew found a few pot markers which did look like a couple of people. False alarm with good intent.
Service Call 62
23rd September @ 09:40 AWB launched to a 14m yacht with engine failure, unable to make way under sail, 14 miles off Ramsgate in the separation zone. AWB arrived on scene , attached a tow and towed casualty into Ramsgate Harbour.

Service Call 63
30th September @ 23:22 ILB launched by the Coastguard to a report of a person attempting to throw themselves into the sea. Shortly after launching it was reported by the mobile Coastguard that the person was detained ashore. The ILB then returned to station.
Service Call 64
1st October @17:10 the harbour dock masters requested our assistance to help paramedics in extricating an injured person from a yacht in the inner harbour. Once on scene we tried our rigid stretcher, but realised it would be nearly impossible to get the casualty out. We then used our ILB stretcher, which is a flexible type of stretcher. Within 5 minutes, with the assistance of mobile Coastguard and harbour masters, the casualty was off the yacht and safely on the ambulance crews stretcher.

4th October @ 14:26 ILB launched to the assistance of a kite surfer in difficulty off Ramsgate main sands, being taken out to sea by the tide. On arrival on scene the kite surfer had lost his board and was at risk of being taken out to sea by the tide. The ILB crew took the kite surfer aboard the ILB and picked his friend up as well who was coming to see if he could help his friend. Both were dropped of on the main beach.
Service Call 66
11th October @ 03:06 ILB launched to a person in the water in the inner harbour. On arrival the ILB crew found the person in the water and got them into the ILB where they were brought back to the lifeboat station and taken into a warm room. They were then checked over by an ambulance crew and found to be in the early stages of hypothermia. They were then taken into the ambulance for further treatment.

14th October @ 13:51 ILB launched to an angling boat with 2 persons on board with engine failure, close to the East side of the Goodwin Sands. ILB towed casualty into Ramsgate
Service Call 68
17th October @ 17:15 ILB launched to 2 youngsters on the South side of the river Stour. 1 of them swam across the river and got ashore before the ILB arrived on scene. Once on scene the ILB picked the remaining youngster up, along with both of their bikes and dropped him off on the North side where both of them were checked over by an awaiting ambulance. The ILB then returned to station with both bikes for later collection.

Service Call 69
22nd October @ 12:26 ILB launched to a local fishing vessel with an injured crewman who had fallen and landed on his back on an anchor. 2 crew from the ILB went aboard the casualty vessel and administered entonox and made sure the casualty remained flat and stationary. The casualty was brought in to Ramsgate on his own vessel as there could be a serious back injury and moving him could have caused permanent damage. Once in Ramsgate the casualty was assessed and treated by the awaiting paramedics and with the assistance of the ILB crew transferred to the ambulance.

26th October @ 13:15 ILB launched to a report of a kite surfer in difficulty at Pegwell Bay. On arrival on scene the ILB crew spoke to another kite surfer, who confirmed that the one they were looking for was now safely ashore. ILB returned to station.
Service Call 71
12th November @ 18:25 ILB launched to the assistance of a small fishing boat with a fouled prop in Sandwich Bay. ILB attached a tow once the casualty raised its anchor and towed it into Ramsgate harbour.
Service Call 72
20th November @ 05:01 AWB launched to a cargo vessel 9 miles off Ramsgate with a crewman that required medical attention. AWB went alongside the vessel, took the casualty onboard and brought him into Ramsgate where he was handed over to an awaiting ambulance.
Service Call 73
20th November @ 12:38 ILB launched to the assistance of a small angling boat with engine failure. ILB attached a tow line and brought the casualty into the harbour and onto it's mooring.
Service Call 74
22nd November @ 22:25 AWB launched to a 30ft fishing boat with engine failure, one mile East of North Foreland. AWB towed casualty into Ramsgate Harbour.
Service Call 75
26th November @ 01:10 ILB launched to assist the Police in searching for a missing person in the Cliffsend area. ILB carried out a thorough search of the area but nothing was found. Dover Coastguard released the ILB from the scene and it returned to station.
Service Call 76
26th November @ 09:04 ILB launched to a catamaran which was hard aground on the Quern Bank. ILB managed to tow the vessel off the bank and escorted it in to Ramsgate Harbour. Advise was given that an underwater inspection would be advisable as the Quern Bank is made up of flint and damage may have occurred.
Service Call 77
10th December @ 12:17 ILB launched to investigate a missing angler in Pegwell Bay. On arrival at scene a small tent and fishing equipment was found on the shoreline. The ILB then carried out a search of the area under the direction of the Coast Guard. Once the Coastguard were satisfied that the area had been extensively searched the ILB was released from service and allowed to return to station.
Service Call 78
10th December @ 14:00 ILB, whilst returning from call 77 were tasked again by the Coastguard to investigate a suspected dead seal off Ramsgate to ensure it wasn't a body. On arrival at scene it was found that it was a dead seal and this was reported to the Coastguard. ILB then returned to station.
Service Call 79
18th December @ 18:57 ILB launched to a report of 3 persons in difficulty off Ramsgate main sands. ILB arrived on scene to find 3 surfers enjoying the swell. The ILB crew had a chat with them and once satisfied that they were responsible, returned to station. False alarm with good intent.
Service Call 4
30th January @ 20:18 the ILB returned back to the casualty from earlier with one of the people rescued. Once on scene, the tide had come in sufficiently for the ILB to drop the owner aboard and make his own way back to Ramsgate with the ILB guiding the way. Once in Ramsgate, the casualty boat was put back on its trailer, with the help of the ILB crew.
Service Call 10
5th April @ 12:44 ILB launched to a 22ft yacht, unable to make way into Ramsgate Harbour due to with engine trouble. ILB towed casualty into harbour and put it on its mooring.
Service Call 11
9th April @ 14:56 AWB launched by Dover Coastguard to a 32ft Motor boat with two persons on board, with engine trouble. AWB headed for the position given by the coastguard which was 18 nautical miles from Ramsgate. On arrival at the position given there was no sight of the stricken vessel, so Dover Coastguard was called to get a further position. The casualty vessel had moved a considerable distance but was found at the second position. The AWB put one of their crew members on board to assist with attaching the tow and checking that everything was OK on board. Once the tow had been attached the AWB crew compared the distance to Dover harbour compared to Ramsgate, and as Dover was closer, towed the casualty to Dover. On arrival at Dover the tow was released, crew member collected, and the casualty handed over to a Dover Pilot vessel for escorting safely to a berth. AWB then proceeded to Ramsgate.
